ELDERBERRY (Sambucus)

Sambucus Canadensis ‘York’ Zone 3

6-8’ Tall and Wide. Native. More compact than the straight species with pinnate green leaves. Large flat clusters of white flowers open in late June and July, followed by tiny black berries, relished by birds. Can be harvested for making elderberry wine, jam and immune-boosting syrup. Likes sun to part-sun, moist soil. Plant another variety such as Adam’s to ensure good production of berries.
